Celtic Jewellery - A Celtic Cross.
A Celtic Cross.

A Celtic Cross.

Options

This is a Cross that I have designed taking inspiration from a range of 7-8 AD sources. There is a series of ancient Irish , Pict and Viking Crosses, engraved into local limestone. They are collectivly known as Cross-Slabs. Another source is a Cross-carpet page in the Book of Lindisfarne, " St Jerome's Letter to Pope Damasus" 7AD. So I brought a "Lovers Knot" into the Cross and a new design is born! Size: 4.5cm X 3cm. Colour: Blue, Green or Red. Price includes the Sterling Silver Chain. ALSO avilable with a Triqurtra (also called Trinity) Knot in Blur or Green.

8th century Hiberno/Pictish art. The number three is a lucky number in the folk culture of the Celt. Could these four trinity knots reprsent "good fortune" through the seasons? I would like to think so. Price includes the Sterling Silver Chain.

Celtic Jewellery - Shamrock Triqurtra.

Shamrock Triqurtra.

A Trinity Knot from the Book of Kells, 8AD Ireland/ Iona. I found this fine example of Celtic Trinity Knot Work, in the Gospel of Saint John VI 37-42:folio 309R Book of Kells. Jesus Discorse on His Divine Mission. Its clearly a Shamrock, and maybe this design is a link to the legend of St patrick, using a Shamrock to illustrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity and the Divinity of Christ. Dimension: 2.5cm before the chain drop.

Dated to the 7 Century AD, Northumbria, The Book of lindisfarne is a landmark in the Art of the Celtic Church. Here again I have been drawn to the great enamel work of the Gealic Jewellers, and the 7th century Anglo-Saxon luxury metalworker. Rich in colourful birds and plants and cats, the Hiberno/Saxon, Book of Lindisfarne went on to inspire metalwork and set the benchmark for design of manuscripts for centuries to come. The Rose Gold in the center of the Sterling Silver setting, for me, represnts the Isle of Lindisfarne and the Blue COLORIT enamel is the North Sea. The Setting it self is inspired by the decorated rivit heads that enrich the Celtic Church metalwork, such as the Derrynaflan Paten and Stand(8AD) and secular arts of 6th-9th century Ireland, Pictish Scotland and Northumbria.
