This design was inspired by a little knot work squashed into a part of an illuminated capital letter from the Book Of Kells, from around 800CE, Isle of Iona, Ireland. This was from Folio 55V, Matthew 33-X, ‘Jesus’s Healing Miracles’. As the Book of Kells was first created on the Isle of Iona, it is only fitting that I should acknowledge this fact and name a design in its honour. Over the years that I have been creating this collection, this design has been one of our most loved, by many of our customers, here in Australian and overseas.
Many of our customers ask about the meaning of our designs. Although we generally don’t place meaning in the sense of ‘good luck’, ‘protection’, or similar concepts, we do feel that this piece is associated with the concept of healing. So many of our customers who are attracted to this are from the healing professions. And often people will choose it as a gift for someone, and curiously, when we ask, the recipient is often a nurse, doctor or counsellor.
