Nida Pendant

Nida, Romano/Celtic horse harness mount.

Found amid the remains of a Roman fortress at Heddernheim-Nida, and made in bronze. Possibly manufactured in Baden-Argan, Switzerland in the 2nd century CE. This style of design, known as “Trumpetemuster”, or “trumpet pattern”, has been found throughout the Roman world of this time.

I love its fractal imagery and the connection to the South Shields Harness mount of the same period. I owe a great thanks to the Reid/Tulip Family for their treasured collection of Celtic history and art books that they have very generously given to me.

The featured photo is of the large pendant, which is 22.5g (excluding chain) and is 3.5cm in diameter.

There is also a slightly smaller pendant available, which is 6.5gms (excluding chain) and 2.5cm in diameter. The photo is forthcoming.
